Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Identity of tiny green spiders found in Sego lilies
Answered by: Nan Hampton
QUESTION:
Hi - I'm wondering if you can identify for me the name of the tiny green spiders that can be found inside Sego Lilies (Calochortus nuttallii). I have a photo if that would be helpful. Thanks!! Carrie NaughtonANSWER:
Mr. Smarty Plants is pretty good at identifying plants, but spiders are outside our area of expertise. I suggest you try several of the Insect/Spider guides such as:
- Spiders.us has a Forum that you can join and appears to have the means to attach photographs of spiders to be identified,
- BugGuide.net–Order Araneae, Spiders has an ID Request feature
- Spider Identification Guide from BASF Corporation
There are more websites that might be useful and you can find them by searching with the following terms: "spider identification guide"
