Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Invasiveness of non-native Asian jasmine
Answered by: Joe Marcus
QUESTION:
I have a lot of Asian Jasmine planted as groundcover in various beds. The last year or so it has become unruly and is now invading my St. Augustine, working its way into the lawn itself. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from doing this?ANSWER:
A physical barrier, for example, steel, stone, or brick edging is probably the simplest solution. You might consider removing the non-native Asian Jasmine and planting native shade-loving species that will not be so invasive. For more information on gardening with natives, please see our collection of articles in the Native Plant Information Network.
