Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: Planting time for bluebonnets
Answered by: Nan Hampton

QUESTION:

When is the best time to plant bluebonnets?

ANSWER:

Fall, no later than mid-November, is the best time to plant Lupinus texensis (Texas bluebonnet). The seeds will germinate in the fall rains and overwinter as rosette seedlings to be ready for the warm spring rains to continue their growth. Please visit our How to Articles page for information on planting and growing bluebonnets.
