Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Identification of alien-looking plant
Answered by: Nan Hampton
QUESTION:
I have a plant that grows 4-5 feet tall, it has pretty "alien looking" flowers with "pods" under flower, and marijuana looking leaves and smell. My neighbor gave me a start last year, and it has reseeded, so I have little starts everywhereANSWER:
Your description, although very interesting, isn't specific enough for us to give you a good idea about what your plant might be. You can take photos of it and visit our Plant Identification page to find links to several plant identification forums that will accept photos of plants for identification.
