Native Plants
Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Wild cranberries in Pennsylvania
Answered by: Nan Hampton
QUESTION:
Where are wild cranberries located in northwest PA, near Brookville?ANSWER:
There are two cranberry bushes native to Pennsylvania,
- Vaccinium macrocarpon (Cranberry) Here is its Pennsylvania county distribution map from the USDA Plants Database.
- Vaccinium oxycoccos (Small cranberry) Here is its Pennsylvania county distribution map from the USDA Plants Database.
To find the actual locations within the counties you should probably visit parks, nature preserves and wilderness areas. You could also contact the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society who might have suggestions for finding wild cranberries in the state.
