Size Notes: To about 30 inches in height.
Leaf: Leaves are linear-oblong, 1-2 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide, margins entire and revolute.
Flower: The flowers, which open before dawn, are about 1 inch long and about 1-1/2 inch across, with five petals. The five connivent stamens enclose the stigma in a way to increase the likelihood of outcrossing. Pollination is primarily by crepuscular moths.
Fruit: A connate pair of terete follicles, about 2 inches long. Fruits mature about two months after flowering.
