Single stems bear a showy, solitary flower head that is nodding when young. Both rays and discs are yellow. Basal leaves are lance-shaped and slightly toothed; stem leaves are narrow and untoothed. The species is variable in amount of pubescence but usually the plants are covered with soft hairs.
