Slightly woody stems covered with small, prickly leaves, form a loose clump with pink flowers in small clusters near the top.
The genus name refers to the finger-like division of the leaves. A more widespread species, Granite Gilia (L. pungens), from southern British Columbia to Baja California, eastward to New Mexico, western Nebraska, and Montana, is 4-16" (10-40 cm) tall.
